Sustainable Southampton Envisions 2030: decarbonize our community for a sustainable future: Adults/Teens/10+

Description:

Presentation Leader: Lynn Arthur. Lynn is a volunteer on the Southampton Town Green Sustainability Advisory Committee where she chairs the Energy sub-committee. She is also Executive Director at Peak Power Long Island, a not for profit who provides marketing and communications services in the areas of conservation and renewable energy solutions. Lynn is currently under contract to the Town of Southampton. She designed and, together with town staff, launched the Town’s Tri-Energy program, which is funded by LI Green Homes, PSEG LI and New York State Energy Research & Development Authority.

This past summer, we depended on the swimming pool and AC to keep us cool. Electricity is vital to our everyday lives. Currently, all of the electricity needed on the South Fork is transmitted from carbon-based power plants up island.

What can individual residents do to reduce their carbon footprint, increase their resilience to severe storms, and reduce operating cost at the same time? Lynn Arthur, from Southampton Town’s Sustainability Advisory Committee, will walk attendees through the Town’s program that is available to anyone on Long Island. Lynn will explain how to order a free home energy audit and what it costs to retrofit your house with a geothermal heat pump and other energy efficient tech such as: smart thermostats, variable speed pool pumps, and insulation. With an average electric bill of $200/month, attendees will learn how they can afford to purchase rooftop solar. The technology and critical role battery storage plays will also be covered, as well as the rebates and subsidies for all these technologies designed to reduce your consumption of electricity.
