The Audacity of Self-Love: An Exhibit By Jacqueline Maldonado

Description:

Watercolor works on paper by
Jacqueline Maldonado

The act of painting is an act of love; its origin is central to my being. Freeing myself intuitively onto paper, one brushstroke informs the next. I revel in color and the alchemy of water and pigment. My work lends itself to movement, energy, and metaphor.

Throughout the series of paintings is a palatable softness, an ease of being – yet vivid colors assert themselves and dance around the canvas. Hints of iridescent pigments shimmer in the shifting light, noticeable only upon intimate viewing.

Each artwork in this collection is an expression of self-love: a reminder to take up space; to not just embrace imperfection but to show it off; to simply breathe; to trust instinct and the process; and to put judgement aside and paint as if no one would ever be looking. In a world where we are bombarded with messages of how many ways we should hate ourselves, our appearance or our perceived inadequacies, it takes audacity to love yourself just as you are.

Jacqueline Maldonado is a design-minded painter living and working in Shoreham, New York. Her expansive career in art includes commissioned fine art, art licensing, surface design, art education and commercial branding. She is most known for forging her own distinct surface design brand by merging her painterly perspective from fine art with commercial design, resulting in a wide range of style and potential applications. Jacqueline’s designs are sold internationally on home textiles and decor products, fabric, wallpaper, tech accessories, apparel, tabletop, gift wrap, greeting cards and more. Her work is featured in book publications by Bowie Style (Print and Pattern: Nature) and Joanna Goss (The Watercolor Ideas Book).

Additionally, Jacqueline’s work has appeared on television on HGTV’s Flipping The Block, as well as several features in HGTV magazine, InStyle magazine, Good Housekeeping and many popular art, decor and lifestyle blogs. Jacqueline studied art and design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Empire State college in New York City, and continued her education with graduate coursework in art education at Queens College.
