The Poetry of Ancestry: Exploring our Roots with Carole Stone

Description:

In this workshop Professor Stone will begin by defining Poetry of Ancestry. Participants may respond to prompts that will be given or write their own poem, one-page fiction piece, or one-page essay. There will be ample time given for reflection, writing and sharing work.
Professor Stone will shed light on the ways in which exploring our roots informs our identity as individuals and our assumptions about others. Even pondering a lineage that is still in shadow can lead to a truer picture of who we are.
Carole Stone is a Distinguished Professor of English and Creative Writing, Emerita, Montclair State University. Her poetry collections include: Late; Hurt, The Shadow; American Rhapsody; and Traveling With the Dead.
