The Second Annual Hoops 4 Hope East End 3's 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

Description:

After the success of last year’s tournament, Hoops 4 Hope (https://www.hoops4hope.org/) has announced they will host the second annual ‘H4H East End 3’s 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament’ on Saturday, August 12th at the East Hampton High School (2 Long Lane, East Hampton, NY 11937). The event will begin at 8 a.m. and each team must have a minimum of three players and a maximum of five. There will be a men’s and women’s division as well as a bracket for kids (ages 13-17) and adults (18+). A grand prize will be awarded to the winning team in each bracket. Players and attendees will also have a chance to win additional prizes during the free throw contest, three point contest and half court shootout.

The tournament will be hosted by Hoops 4 Hope, a non-profit founded in 1995 that works in underserved communities in Cape Town, South Africa, Harare, Zimbabwe and with local schools and programs to enhance community engagement. It will be played on the court that is dedicated to NYS HOF Basketball Coach Ed Petrie. The fee per team is $400. Food and drinks will be provided to the players and available for purchase to attendees. The cost to attend as a spectator is free, although donations are welcome. All proceeds will benefit Hoops 4 Hope. Teams can register by visiting https://bit.ly/3pK1a8S.

Hoops 4 Hope will also host a benefit the next day, Sunday, August 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Sagaponack Farm Distillery (369 Sagg Rd, Sagaponack, NY 11962). The night will celebrate African culture, the organization, and all who support it. There will be food from local restaurants, silent and chance auctions and gypsy jazz music from Hot Club of Montauk. Silent auction prizes, including Yankees tickets, signed Jets memorabilia from Sauce Gardiner, Zach Wilson and CJ Mosley, and a polo trip for two in Buenos Aires, will be given out to the highest bidder. Bidding will be open to the public on Hoops 4 Hope’s website starting on July 11 and will close on August 15 at 5 p.m. All proceeds will support programs in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Tickets for the benefit start at $300 and can be purchased by visiting: https://bit.ly/3rvsiZx.

“Hosting our benefit this year at Sagaponack Farm Distillery is meaningful to me,” says Mark Crandall, the founder of Hoops 4 Hope. “The local focus of the distillery, from growing and producing their own spirits to serving only NYS produced wine, beer and food products, pulls into focus the connectedness of Hoops 4 Hope as well. We are supporting local businesses, who are in turn, supporting us. It’s a real full-circle moment.”

ABOUT HOOPS 4 HOPE:
Hoops 4 Hope, a non-profit organization since 1995, has been working in underserved communities in Cape Town, South Africa, Harare, Zimbabwe and locally on the East End of Long Island. Powered by the spirit of Ubuntu and the joy of sport, H4H provides young people with the fundamentals and opportunities necessary to be happy, healthy, and safe both emotionally and physically. Thousands of children across South Africa, Zimbabwe and the East End are deprived of meaningful mentorship and sport. By combining basketball, Skills 4 Life programming, and the 7 Tools of An Ubuntu Champion, Hoops 4 Hope has been able to remain steadfast in its focus – improving the health and wellbeing of young people. Hoops 4 Hope has successfully operated through HIV outbreaks, cholera epidemics, COVID-19, and all manners of social and political upheaval. Hoops 4 Hope has succeeded in creating an innovative sports-based youth leadership curriculum that supports youth development in local communities to address modern social challenges.

“I will never forget the impact this trip had on me,” says Elias Wolf, an Amagansett native who traveled to Zimbabwe this past winter to volunteer for Hoops 4 Hope with the Ross School. “I will fuel the fire of positivity and love through my words and actions.”
