We are thrilled to present two new summer exhibitions, CORNELIA FOSS, a very special solo exhibition of the acclaimed artist’s most recent work in her 91st year and SUMMER HAZE, with works by Rainer Andreesen, Edwina Lucas, Michael Meehan, and Dinah Maxwell Smith. Both exhibitions will be on view July 16th through the 31st, with a joint opening reception Saturday, July 16, 6 to 8 PM.
SUMMER HAZE features the work of four distinguished East End focused artists, Rainer Andreesen, Edwina Lucas, Michael Meehan, and Dinah Maxwell Smith. Timeless and familiar summer scenes are presented as if through a hazy summer memory, channeling remembrances of summers past.
CORNELIA FOSS, a painterly realist, has been painting for over fifty years, as is evident by her sure hand and elegant use of color. Renowned for her fresh and personal vision, Foss's work interplays intense emotion within the formal constraints of design and painting. Foss paints what she sees, the beaches and landscapes of the Hamptons, the garden of her Long Island home, views of Central Park. Foss invites the viewer into a world of exuberant flower gardens, expansive landscapes and expressive skies.
Foss's work is featured in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the National Museum for Women, the Burchfield Penney Art Center and the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. among many other public and private collections. For three decades Foss taught at the Art Students League. In 2017 she received an Arts and Letters Award in Art from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. 2015 marked the publication of Cornelia Foss: A Retrospective (Skira/Rizzoli). Recent solo exhibitions include the Museum at Guild Hall, East Hampton, NY, 2015, and Rafael Gallery, New York, NY 2018.
