Two Exhibitions: The Eye Must Travel & Louise Sloane

Description:

MM FINE ART is thrilled to kick off the summer season with two exhibitions opening
Memorial Day weekend, with a joint reception Saturday, May 27, 6 to 8 PM.

The Eye Must Travel is a three-person exhibition featuring the works of Michele Francis,
Melinda Hackett, and Michael Quadland. Quadland’s artwork is self-described as
being “highly textural and/or three dimensional — straddling the fine lines between
painting, sculpture and architecture.” Quadland focuses on the expression of emotion,
and “he uses a nonobjective format as a way to maximize imagination and projection,
using abstract forms and evocative colors in layered surfaces.”

Melinda Hackett’s work references the world of nature rather than depicts it literally,
transporting the viewer to a necessarily foreign place, where nature can be
experienced without knowing it fully. The artists states, “I am involved in the play of
interior and exterior space. My paintings represent both states, the near, the far, the
view through a telescope, the view through a microscope, the sheltering sky, the
intimate forest.”

The Seascape series from Michele Francis focuses on the depth, mystery, and ever changing colors of nature. The colors in her paintings will change depending on where the viewer is standing, and in different light during different times of day. The changing movement and power of color, brushstroke and texture evoke new and different emotions as the work continues to reveal itself upon repeated viewings.

"In the north gallery a solo exhibition of Louise P. Sloane’s work will be on view. Since 1974 Louise P. Sloane has been engaged in the studio as an abstract painter. Each of her works are infused with highly personal text that inspires and motivates her to keep growing and experimenting. Her paintings emanate from a long and rich tradition in art history. The visual language of her paintings embraces the legacy of reductive and minimalist ideologies while celebrating the beauty of color, and a human affinity for
making."
