Vadis Turner debuts Venus Rising at LongHouse, a series of bold abstract outdoor sculptures that reimagine the Roman goddess Venus not as a reclining nude but as an upright, energized figure composed of cast aluminum bedsheets and dining plates. This feminized, bright red grid form marks Turner’s latest exploration of domestic materials liberated from their traditional roles, reflecting her ongoing practice of challenging gendered archetypes and the expectations placed on women, shaped by her upbringing in the conservative South. The exhibition is accompanied by a free Artist Walk & Talk with Turner and curator Kyle DeWoody, whose curatorial work often bridges art with social and environmental issues. Venus Rising is supported by the Dorothea Leonhardt Fund at The Communities Foundation of Texas, Inc. and The Jenni Crain Foundation.
