Some of us may remember an early encounter with the concept of mercy upon reading Portia's famous speech in Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice: "The quality of mercy is not strain'd; it droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven Upon the place beneath:..."A beautiful sentiment.
