Urgent Optimism: A Churchillian Climate Plan
Sunday, September 1, 10:30am
John Andrews makes an analogy between climate change today and the challenge posed by Hitler in the years leading up to World War II. He’ll explain how Winston Churchill had to contend with the denialism of Neville Chamberlain and then the defeatism of Lord Halifax. Like Churchill then, we now have on one hand the climate-change deniers and minimizers, and on the other those who say we are doomed. John will then outline a four-part strategy that begins with reducing greenhouse-gas emissions but goes beyond that. It will encourage people to adopt the kind of urgent optimism that Churchill did nearly a century ago and like him promise “we shall never surrender."
