Weekly Service for Unitarian Universalist Congretation of the South Fork

Description:

2020 Hindsight and The Overview Effect
Sunday, March 10, 10:30am

Speaker: Erling Hope
Musician: Steven Skoldberg
Worship Associate: Kent Martin

How do we invite transformation, we creatures of stubborn habit? Where do we seek it out, where do we find it? How do we make ready for the kinds of change that these times require of us? Some of this will be easy. But most of it, well, just be sure your seat belts are securely fastened, and your seat backs and tray tables are in their fully upright position. The view out the window will be breathtaking, but there may be some turbulence.

Speaker Bio: Erling Hope is a multi-media thing-maker and experience-technician. For over thirty five years, he has been exploring the influence of objects, images, and the built environment on the human capacity for reflection and enchantment. Through performance, craft, visual art and storytelling, he has been mapping a sort of cultural / cognitive Third Space that lies at the boundary between Art and Religion. Sometimes called “Theopoetics”, it is a fertile, dynamic, often fraught space that holds alluring possibilities for the world that ought to be. ...He has also been called a “Tourist Trapped in a Local’s Body” by a teenage daughter. Though it was intended as a snide insult, he has adopted this appellation as a keen honor and his life’s highest calling.
