Barrister's Restaurant In Southampton Village To Close This Weekend

authorErin McKinley on Sep 25, 2013

Popular Southampton restaurant Barrister’s will be closing its doors for good this Sunday after the longtime owner announced plans for retirement last December.

According to a Facebook post on the Barrister’s page, the restaurant will bid a final farewell after more than 30 years from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, and all are welcome to attend.

“What a long, strange trip it’s been,” the post says.

The Main Street restaurant was 18 months old when Michael Ferran and Richard “Digger” McMahon bought it in 1979. Both graduates of Southampton College, Mr. Ferran and Mr. McMahon had worked as bartenders at the Driver’s Seat, another longtime village establishment, before they came up with a plan to open their own restaurant.

In a past interview, Mr. Ferran explained that the building had been on the market for roughly four years, since Mr. McMahon was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. Mr. McMahon died later that year.

It is unclear at this time if the building itself has been sold, or what will replace the restaurant.
