Dock To Dish Crowdfunds To Trace Fish From The Sea To The Plate

author27east on Mar 21, 2017

Dock to Dish, the community-based seafood sourcing program originated in Montauk in 2012, is holding a crowdfunding campaign to further its mission and provide traceability for the origins of seafood.

Organizers are seeking to launch“Dock to Dish 2.0.” The initiative includes building a technologically advanced seafood tracking system, overhauling docktodish.com to provide a traceability platform, and upgrading Dock to Dish’s refrigerated cargo capacity. Traceability means that fish and other seafood can be tracked from the moment it is caught or harvested until the moment it reaches a market or restaurant.

Dock to Dish began by emulating the community supported agriculture, or CSA, model. Instead of linking farms directly to consumers, Dock to Dish linked fishermen to restaurants. It is the world’s first restaurant supported fishery program.

The concept was soon embraced in coastal communities throughout the state, and Now Dock to Dish is expanding programs in Los Angeles, California, Vancouver, Canada, and Quepos, Costa Rica.

The KickStarter campaign is more than halfway to its $75,000 goal with about a week to go.
