Summer Supper Basket

This year, it’s not possible for groups to gather to celebrate and raise funds for local cultural institutions. But the Southampton History Museum has come up with an ingenious way to give its patrons another way to celebrate the season, support the museum and enjoy some fine food and drink.

The “Halsey House Summer Supper Basket” will be offered this Saturday, August 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Halsey House, 249 South Main Street, Southampton. Enjoy a charcuterie of delights in an old-fashioned picnic basket with plates, utensils and a bottle of sparkling rosé.

Each basket will have over 16 hand-picked, pre-package items including, a local cheese from Mecox Farms in Water Mill, a variety of dried fruits, Carr’s crackers, McVities, Tate’s cookies, hummus and chips, assorted nuts, olives, a bottle of chilled wine and more.

Baskets also come with a complimentary picnic dinner from Claude’s Restaurant at the Southampton Inn (91 Hill Street) where guests can reserve a spot on the lawn, and from 4 to 6 p.m., enjoy the Summer Supper Basket alongside Claude’s 3-piece “Southampton” fried chicken, Rosa’s potato salad, home-made coleslaw, local pickles, watermelon and home-baked cookies.

“This year has been extraordinary for the Southampton History Museum. We’ve learned to adapt our wide-ranging programs into outdoor and electronic formats. To pay the bills, we are taking imaginative steps to such as this picnic basket benefit following all New York State health and safety requirements,” said Tom Edmonds, director of the museum. “Because we can’t join together for our usual galas, we’re offering take-home goodies donated by local food artisans and Herbert & Rist Liquors.”

Baskets start at $200 for two people and go all the way up to $10,000 for a sponsorship for 10 people, which includes all the food, a copy of “Houses of the Hamptons” by Gary Lawrance and Anne Surchin, a unique Rose de Rose wood carving, plus a rental event at the museum’s Rogers Mansion.

To reserve a basket, call 631-283-2494 extension 200, visit southamptonhistory.org/summersupper or email Liana Mizzi at lmizzi@southamptonhistory.org.

NYC Restaurant Launches Summer Location in Montauk

Donna Lennard, Justin Smillie, and their team from il Buco in New York City are heading east for an exciting summer residency. They’re thrilled to introduce il Buco at Mostrador Marram in Montauk. The new restaurant is a meeting of worlds, drawing on the timelessness of il Buco’s simple ingredient-forward preparations and the eclectic, laid-back spirit of the Marram property and Montauk. The menu highlights the East End’s local fisheries and organic farms, as well as il Buco Alimentari’s house made breads and salumi.

The all-day outdoor cafe is available to Marram guests and visitors alike. It features a variety of dishes covering breakfast, lunch, aperitivo hour, and dinner periods. Smillie’s menu includes breakfast offerings like semolina blueberry muffins; egg scramble; crisp pork belly and parmigiano on house made focaccia. Lunch and dinner includes dishes such as sprouted chickpea falafel with tahini and a cucumber, kohlrabi, avocado salad; a lobster roll; a smashed burger with charred balsamic onions, special sauce, arugula and crispy salted fries; and a variety of cast-iron pizzas, such as tomato, hand-pulled mozzarella and spring garlic, or one with zucchini flowers, fontina, tomato and anchovy.

The full bar features drinks from il Buco’s beverage director David Giuliano and will focus on lighter, aperitivo style cocktails such as an Italian daiquiri featuring white rum, Cynar, and lime; the Rome With a View comprised of Campari, dry vermouth, lime, and soda; a Basil Paloma with tequila, poblano, basil-grapefruit juice, lime, soda; and Il Buco’s signature Contratto Spritz made with Contratto aperitivo, prosecco, and orange. A creative wine list offers a variety of sparkling, rosé, white and red selections, as well as canned wines and beers.

So stop by Marram at 21 Oceanview Terrace in Montauk and enjoy a taste of il Buco on the beach. For more information, visit marrammontauk.com/dine/.
