Winter Brunch At Gurney’s

Gurney’s Montauk has launched one of the hamlet’s first brunch options — ideal for spending time with family and friends during the cold, quiet winter months.

The seasonal menu, curated by executive chef Doug Forgione, features dishes including a winter chicory salad, cauliflower carbonara, bananas foster French toast, Happy Egg Co. shakshuka and steak and eggs. The meal will be accompanied by live music and specialty cocktails and is only available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through March.

Options to share include East Coast oysters served with mignonette, lemon and tabasco ($24), jumbo shrimp cocktail ($18 or $36), tuna tartare ($22), hot and cold Caesar ($20), wintry chicory salad ($19) cauliflower carbonara ($19), smoked salmon ($17) and burrata ($21). Entrees include an acai bowl with fresh berries and granola ($18), peaches and cream bowl with fruit, almond butter, granola coconut milk and Greek yogurt ($18), Bananas Foster French toast ($23), Tillie’s breakfast with eggs, bacon and sausage, skillet potatoes and Tuscan toast ($22), Happy Egg Co. shahuka made with free range eggs poached in a spiced tomato sauce, served with garlic filone ($18), lobster roll ($40), frittata ($19), Nashville hot chicken ($23), steak and eggs ($31), Americana burger ($26), Gurney’s dip made with shaved prime rib, brandied onion and peppercorn dip ($32).

Gurney’s is located at 290 Old Montauk Highway, Montauk. To check out the brunch menu or make reservations, visit gurneysresorts.com/Montauk.

Long Island Restaurant Week Returns

If it’s January, it must be time for the annual Long Island Restaurant Week, a tri-annual event designed to garner positive publicity and additional business for the region’s restaurants. Since 2006, it has been an annual fall promotion until the first spring Long Island Restaurant Week was launched in April 2011 and then winter was added in January of 2016, due to popular customer and restaurateur demand.

This year, the winter promotion will take place from Sunday, January 23, to Sunday, January 30, and there are a number of prix fixe options ready to help cure cabin fever.

Participating restaurants may offer a $20 two-course lunch; a $25 three-course dinner menu, a $35 three-course dinner menu or a $42 three-course dinner prix fixe and restaurants may offer one, two or all of these options throughout the promotion. Each participant is required to offer three options per course (appetizer, entrée, and dessert) for dinner. The promotion runs Sunday to Sunday (except Saturday night when it only has to be offered until 7 p.m.). Many restaurants will be offering the promotion for takeout as well as for limited indoor and outdoor dining.

More than 80 restaurants across Long Island are expected to participate. Here on the East End, participating restaurants are: On the South Fork, Southampton Publick House, Manna at the Lobster Inn, Union Steak & Sushi and Calissa are all on board; Riverhead restaurants taking part include the Cooperage Inn, Bistro 72, Farm Country Kitchen, and on the North Fork, On the Docks in Aquebogue and Legends in New Suffolk are participating.
