There are Sharks in These Parts
Shark Bar Montauk is back for the season and ready to turn up the vibes.
Located on the Napeague stretch in the former Cyril’s Fish House, this open-air seafood shack from the team behind Mavericks Montauk has quickly become Montauk’s go-to for salty, sunburnt post-beach hangs. With a flip-flop-friendly menu of roadside classics and tiki-inspired cocktails, Shark Bar pairs quirky charm with elevated seaside fare.
This summer, the bar program from East End Mixology’s Jarhn Blutstein expands with playful additions to the frozen and tiki cocktail menu. Plus, starting this weekend, Shark Bar will host live local music sets every Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. alongside weekly cornhole tournaments for those looking to lean all the way into the laid-back, surf-shack spirit.
The menu still hits all the right notes: buttery lobster rolls, trout roe-topped fish sandwiches and the house-made strawberry shortcake ice cream bar that’s already become legend. And yes, the iconic BBC (Baileys, Banana, Colada) is still front and center. Plus new menu additions to come.
With seating for 160 and a pass-through bar connecting indoor and outdoor spaces, Shark Bar offers a cheeky surf-inspired aesthetic featuring fine art and nostalgic touches (including a surfboard signed by The Beach Boys). Since opening in 2024, Shark Bar’s menu has put a fresh spin on classic roadside favorites. Equal parts quirky and cool, Shark Bar is Montauk’s go-to for post-beach hangs and golden hour gatherings.
Shark Bar Montauk is at 2167 Montauk Highway in Montauk. Visit sharkbarmontauk.com for details.
Ruschmeyers Montauk Reimagined
Bridgeton – the team behind Marram Montauk and Journey East Hampton – is relaunching one of Montauk’s most iconic properties: Ruschmeyers.
Reopened Memorial Day weekend as a full-service boutique hotel, Ruschmeyers returns not as a fleeting pop-up, but as a purposeful, permanent gathering place designed to restore the spirit of Montauk as a creative enclave.
Originally built in 1952 as a summer camp, Ruschmeyers has long been a destination for city escapees, artists and explorers. After several years operating without a full-service experience, the property has been fully reimagined by Bridgeton and will now offer refreshed guest rooms, a new signature restaurant, wood-fired pizza pop-ups and immersive culinary events – all designed to inspire connection and community.
At the heart of the relaunch is The Grill at Ruschmeyers, led by Chef Jordan Heissenberger (Buvette, Apollonia, Rucola). The all-day eatery will serve inventive coastal fare (think Montauk fluke tartare, wood-fired oysters and house-ground burgers) designed for long, lively meals that stretch into the evening.
With this relaunch, Bridgeton is restoring Ruschmeyers legacy as a place to spark new ideas, make meaningful memories and reconnect – with nature, with each other and with yourself.
Ruschmeyers is located at 161 Second House Road in Montauk. Visit ruschmeyershotel.com for more information.
The Tusk Bar Shifts East
This summer, The Tusk Bar is heading to the East End for a special residency takeover at East Hampton’s Moby’s. Taking over the front bar space, guests will find a taste of one of Manhattan’s most adored bars without having to retreat back to the city.
The Tusk Bar’s signature convivial energy will carry through with a front-facing oyster station and a rotation of vibrant, summer-driven cocktails led by bar director Tristan Brunel. This pop-up is part of a broader movement to bring the best of New York City’s cocktail scene to Moby’s, with additional partners set to join later this summer. But for now, The Tusk Bar kicks things off with just the right balance of golden-hour glamour and laid-back luxury.
The Tusk Bar is located at Moby’s, 341 Pantigo Road, East Hampton.
