Mary McGuire-Wien, the owner of American Yogini in Jamesport, will demonstrate how to make dairy-free ice cream on May 22 at the Loaves and Fishes Cookshop on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton.
The “cream” for the ice cream will be some variety of homemade nut milk, Ms. McGuire-Wien said. Copious amounts of fresh fruit, full of vitamins and minerals not found in processed food, will also be used, she said.
Ms. McGuire-Wien is giving the demonstration in order to promote her new book, “The 7-Day Total Cleanse,” an in-depth guide for doing a juice fast that also describes some helpful yoga practices.
The book, published by McGraw-Hill, came out earlier this year.
Sybille van Kempen, the owner of Loaves and Fishes, said that every Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. someone gives a demonstration at her cookshop.
She added that she sells many implements and utensils that are needed for a raw foods diet—the kind Ms. McGuire-Wien advocates, including juicers, extractors and special blenders.
The demonstration is free; for information, call 866-964-4649 or 537-6066.
