John v.H. Halsey, President of the Peconic Land Trust, and Rick Bogusch, Garden Manager, have announced the kick-off of annual conversations with local experts, this year once again focusing on local farmers, food and beverage producers and chefs.
“Long Island Grown” has expanded in recent years to showcase a wide variety of products designed to meet an increasing demand for unique “value added” products. The 2017 series focuses on some innovative and entrepreneurial products coming from our community, and demonstrates how our locally grown products are evolving to meet the changing consumer tastes. This year’s presentations will take place in a panel style and be moderated by Laura Donnelly, local pastry chef, author and food editor of The East Hampton Star.
All presentations start at 2 p.m. and are held at Bridge Gardens on Mitchell Lane in Bridgehampton. Refreshments follow each presentation, and attendees can chat with panelists after each program. Admission is $30 per person or $25 for current members of Bridge Gardens. Tickets for the series may be purchased at $100 per person, or $80 for current members of Bridge Gardens. The program sold out last year, and advance reservations are strongly recommended.
This year’s schedule includes Matt Schmitt of Schmitt Farms, Ron Goerler of Jamesport Vineyards, and Chef Jason Weiner of Almond Restaurant in Bridgehampton on March 5; Al Krupski of Krupski Farms, Ray Wellen of Green Thumb Organic Farm, Barbara Shinn of Shinn Estate Vineyards, and Chef Dee Muma of Dark Horse Restaurant in Riverhead on March 19; Hank Kraszewski of Kraszewski Farms, Juan Micieli-Martinez of Martha Clara Vineyards and Chef Colin Ambrose of Estia’s Little Kitchen in Sag Harbor on April 2; and Paul McCormick of Great Gun Shellfish, Anthony Nappa of Raphael Winery, and Chef Taylor Knapp of PawPaw Restaurant in Greenport on April 23.
