Critically acclaimed soul/hip-hop singer-songwriter Maya Azucena will deliver an acoustic set from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack for the first “Candlelight Fridays” show of 2010 on January 8.

This show marks a return to the East End for the Brooklyn-based vocal powerhouse, who earned accolades for her acoustic soul project, “Junkyard Jewel.” In 2009 she joined reggae superstar Stephen Marley for a special performance in Montauk after working with Mr. Marley on his album, “Mind Control,” which won a Grammy.

“I really cannot wait to witness the beautiful Wölffer landscape in winter,” Ms. Azucena said recently. “It will be a treat to provide the soundscape for an evening and serenade wine and music lovers, such as myself!”

Critics have characterized Ms. Azucena’s music as “an intoxicating combination of soul, jazz, hip-hop, and folk.” She has displayed considerable versatility, sharing stages and bills with both legendary artists and acclaimed newcomers, including Roberta Flack, John Legend, Roy Ayers, Vernon Reid, Joss Stone, the Isley Brothers, and Gladys Knight, among others.

She has gained international recognition from tour stops in China, the Philippines, Canada, Italy, and England, as well as such cities as Stockholm, Amsterdam and Bologna. The singer recently returned from a two-week musical tour titled “Esperanza de Brooklyn,” which was hosted by the U.S. Embassies in Honduras and El Salvador.

Her lyrics emphasize her belief that music is a tool for healing and activism, and the singer supports a number of humanitarian causes. For information, visit www.MayaAzucena.com or call Wölffer at (631) 537-5106.
