The Westhampton Beach Village Board has approved an application that will allow a popular pizzeria to more than double in size.
At last week’s meeting, board members unanimously signed off on a special exception application filed by Tony Intravaia, the owner of Tonino’s Pizza in the North Mall. The permit will allow Mr. Intravaia to expand into a neighboring storefront, and increase his restaurant’s capacity from 16 to 40 seats, once the Suffolk County Board of Health agrees to alter his pizzeria’s designation from a luncheonette to a restaurant.
For that to happen, Mr. Intravaia said he expects the county to require that he first install a second leaching pool.
In a previous interview, the pizzeria owner, who did not attend the hearing on January 20, explained that he wants to expand his business into a full-service restaurant. “First we need to get approved for 40 seats,” he said. “From that point on, we can do what we want.”
