AIA Peconic Offers NYStretch Code Virtual Training

authorStaff Writer on May 10, 2023

AIA Peconic presents two opportunities this month for architects and builders to learn about NYStretch Residential Energy Code, a more stringent energy efficiency building code that both South Fork towns have adopted.

In partnership with energy consultant Tom Baccarella of New York Building Technology Group, AIA Peconic will offer virtual presentations on Wednesday, May 17, at noon and Wednesday, May 24, at 6 p.m.

Baccarella is a 40-year veteran of the Long Island construction industry and a certified Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater.

Participants will gain an understanding of the NYStretch Code and the specific sections adopted by Southampton and East Hampton towns. The program will also explain the subtle differences between HERS and the new Energy Rating Index, or ERI, and share the best options for meeting the ERI requirements. Other topics will include the effects of renewable energy sources on the HERS index and the best options for return on investment, and best practices for complying with NYStretch requirements.

The program will emphasize finding cost-effective solutions and minimizing the impact of code upgrades on building function and aesthetics.

Participants can receive three LU/HSW credits. Admission is $40 for the public, $20 for AIA Peconic members and $30 for other American Institute of Architects members. Visit aiapeconic.org to register.

Scammers impersonating utility companies routinely target ratepayers, threatening them with immediate shutoff of their service if they don’t send money immediately. Some scammers will call, and others may even show up on doorsteps. In observance of Utility Scam Awareness Day last week, PSEG Long Island shared advice to help ratepayers avoid falling victim to common scams. “The theme of this year’s Utility Scam Awareness Day is ‘Anytime, Anyone, Anywhere,’ and we want all customers to stay vigilant against utility impostor scams,” said Lou DeBrino, PSEG Long Island’s vice president of customer operations. “It may be an advanced digital scam, an ... by Staff Writer
