East Hampton-based architecture and design firm Bates Masi + Architects recently took home multiple awards.

Bates Masi-designed residences “Signal Hill” in Montauk and “Mecox” in Bridgehampton both earned Honor Awards at the AIA Tri-State Fusion Conference Design Awards last week. The competition was among members of three American Institute of Architects state associations: AIA New Jersey, AIA New York State, and AIA Pennsylvania.

In addition, Builder Magazine recently announced its 2024 Builder’s Choice Design Award winners with Bates Masi’s “Signal Hill” and “Navy Beach,” both in Montauk, receiving Merit Awards and Bates Masi’s “Three Mile Harbor,” a 2,455-square-foot custom home built by Ben Krupinski Builder in East Hampton, being named Project of the Year.

“Three Mile Harbor” was built on a narrow waterfront lot, 10 times deeper than it is wide. Other design hurdles included mandatory shoreline setbacks and height restrictions.

“It’s this very simple, rectangular, and small-scale form that you’re greeted with,” Bates Masi principal Paul Masi told Builder Magazine. “I like the sort of subtlety on the entrance, because when you get into it, people say ‘oh wow,’ and there’s so much more.”
