The Long Island Chapter of the American Institute of Architects recently awarded Sag Harbor-based Bates Masi + Architects the prestigious Archi Award for its design of the Lakeside residence in Montauk.
The award was for “Best Single and Multi-Family Residence.” This is the tenth architectural award that Bates Masi + Architects has won since 2008.
The Lakeside residence, a 3,250-square-foot home, was designed to evoke the experience of camping, evidenced primarily by 36-foot-wide walls of retractable glass that allow the interior of the house and the surrounding natural areas to blend harmoniously.
The home is environmentally sensitive, with a geothermal heating and cooling system, organic finishes and materials and pre-cast concrete foundation, which reduced waste and toxic chemicals in the ground.
