Suffolk County homeowners, renters, businesses and nonprofit organizations affected by Hurricane Irene have only a few days left to submit applications for federal assistance. Those affected by the storm must complete their applications before Monday, October 31, the filing deadline for physical property damage.
According to information provided by Congressman Tim Bishop, Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans are available to qualified renters, property owners, nonprofit organizations and businesses of any size that suffered losses due to the disaster. The loans are designed for disaster survivors not fully covered by insurance or without insurance.
SBA disaster loans are the primary source of long-term recovery aid, according to information provided by Mr. Bishop. To date, the SBA has approved more than $43 million in low-interest disaster loans for New Yorkers who suffered damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
Those affected by the disaster may apply for disaster loans online at disasterloan.sba.gov/ela or by calling (800) 659-2955.
Applications may be mailed to U.S. Small Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, Texas, 76155.
