The Group for the East End and the Peconic Estuary Partnership are offering a free virtual program on Thursday, June 25, about installing shoreline plantings and rain gardens to improve water quality.

Rusty Schmidt, the president of the Long Island Native Plant Initiative, will explain why such plantings and gardens are important for Long Island’s water bodies and what plants are best to strengthen the shoreline.

The Peconic Estuary Partnership, one of 28 National Estuary Programs across the United States, is dedicated to protecting the Peconic Estuary, which consists of more than 100 harbors, embayments and tributaries spanning more than 125,000 acres of land and 158,000 acres of surface water between the North and South Forks.

The seminar will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Email peptalk@peconicestuary.org for more information. Register at zoom.us/meeting/register/tJAqfumopj0oHtOPYgHsnuw3X4u30H3kL5yE.
