For both vegetable gardeners and ornamental gardeners, there are free learning opportunities coming up in March at both in-person and virtual events.

Pat Collins of Cornell Cooperative Extension will present a free seed starting workshop on Thursday, March 2, at 1 p.m. in-person at East Hampton Library and via Zoom.

Collins will share the basics of what is needed to start planting for the coming season.

Call 631-324-0222, extension 3, stop by the reference desk or visit easthamptonlibrary.org/calendar to register.

The North American Native Plant Society will present the free webinar “Native Shrubs for Your Garden” on Tuesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. Environmental educator Colleen Cirillo, a Rewilding Communities campaigner with the David Suzuki Foundation, will look at the “in between” plants — the shrubs that are not the giant trees and not the small forbs. Visit nanps.org, click “Events & Activities” and choose “Speakers and Workshops” from the menu for details on how to register.

Quogue Library will welcome North Fork gardener Renato Stafford on Thursday, March 23, at 2 p.m. for a presentation in starting a vegetable garden. Stafford will focus on designing growing locations, building raised beds, installing irrigation systems, selecting and starting seeds, growing techniques and garden maintenance. Organic seeds from the Quogue Library seed bank and light refreshments will be provided.
