LIPA offers cost savers

author27east on Jun 10, 2009

The Long Island Power Authority is offering customers various ways to save money and energy this summer with three new efficiency programs.

Rebates will be offered for customers who purchase qualified pool pumps and refrigerators and for those who conduct central air conditioning tune-ups. Additionally, LIPA will continue to offer cash incentives to customers who use room dehumidifiers.

The rebates are part of LIPA’s “Efficiency Long Island” program, a 10-year, $924 million energy efficiency effort launched this year. The program offers a wide array of incentives, rebates and initiatives for residential and commercial customers in accordance with Governor David Paterson’s “45 By 15” initiative.

The goal of “45 By 15” is for New York State to meet 45 percent of its electricity needs through improved energy efficiency and renewable sources by the year 2015.

LIPA customers who replace their older single-speed pool pump with a new two-speed pump will be eligible for a $75 rebate until July 31. Those who install a variable-speed pump may be eligible for a $200 rebate. Customers must use a participating LIPA contractor for the installation in order to be eligible.

In addition to the pool pump rebates, LIPA is offering residential customers a $75 rebate on the purchase of select standard size Energy Star-qualified refrigerators larger than 7½ cubic feet. That offer will end on September 30.

Customers who conduct a “CheckMe! Tune-Up” to assess the status of their cooling system’s refrigerant charge and air flow may also receive LIPA rebates. The $100 rebate offer is valid for customers who purchased and installed a central air conditioning system prior to January 1, 2005 and who use a LIPA-participating “CheckMe! Tune-Up” contractor.

The power company is also continuing its rebate programs on Energy Star-qualified dehumidifiers until December 31. LIPA customers will receive a $10 rebate on eligible Energy Star-qualified dehumidifiers.
