Starting this month, more than 100 armchairs, sofas, poufs, tables, and parasol umbrellas by Italian designer Paola Lenti’s namesake furniture brand are going on view at East Hampton’s LongHouse Reserve, which will host an exhibition special preview on Friday, June 14.

The contemporary design furnishings inspired by art, nature and the wonder of outdoor living will be displayed in five areas throughout the 16-acre gardens, according to LongHouse.

“LongHouse is a union of art and nature, with a mission to inspire living with art in all forms. Our collaboration with Paola Lenti is a true fulfillment of that mission,” LongHouse Director Carrie Rebora Barratt said. “Paola Lenti is a master of color who took inspiration from LongHouse’s habitat to curate the palette for the exhibition. The spaces will offer LongHouse visitors very special respite from the summer sun.”

“My sister Anna Lenti and I had the honor and pleasure, a few years ago, of meeting [LongHouse Founder] Jack Lenor Larsen,” Lenti said. “A sincere understanding immediately formed between us, based on a common vision of nature, its importance for humans, the benefit derived from enjoying art in all its expressions, and the role of craftsmanship as a privileged means to give soul to things. For this place, LongHouse, Larsen has intuited to be the ideal place to insert artworks accessible to everyone. We have selected products that could establish a harmonious and positive dialogue with nature and art.”

The preview offers the opportunity to explore the garden and enjoy the exhibition, special drinks and nibbles. The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Ticket proceeds support LongHouse’s programs in art, design, nature and wellness. Tickets are $200, available at longhouse.org. LongHouse Reserve is located at 133 Hands Creek Road, East Hampton.

Red Cross Offers Fire Safety Tips for Fire Prevention Week

This Fire Prevention Week, October 6 to 12, the American Red Cross on Long Island encourages households to practice a home fire escape plan, test smoke alarms and assess where smoke alarms should be replaced or added. Home fires claim seven lives every day in the United States and more lives in a typical year than all natural disasters combined, but having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half, according to the Red Cross. “Fire now travels faster through homes, largely due to popular open-concept layouts and synthetic materials,” said Jose Dominguez, the Red Cross chapter ... by Staff Writer

Suffolk County Water Authority Reports Successful Conservation Efforts

The Suffolk County Water Authority reports that its water conservation efforts were successful during one of the hottest summers on record. SCWA stated that it successfully managed water demand without experiencing the stress typically seen during peak summer usage. “In past years, SCWA often faced peak demands up to 540,000 gallons per minute (gpm),” the water authority shared. “This summer, however, demand never exceeded 520,000 gpm and rarely surpassed 510,000 gpm.” SCWA credits this to customers embracing water conservation measures, particularly the odd/even lawn watering schedule. “This proven approach significantly reduces water demand without compromising lawn health,” the water authority ... 1 Oct 2024 by Staff Writer
