A clear sunny morning greeted participants in the Pollinator Garden Tour sponsored by the Greater Westhampton Suffolk Alliance for Pollinators last Saturday. “One of our goals was to reach gardeners and homeowners to persuade them of the importance of native and pollinator plants, and I think we achieved that and more,” said Alicia Whitaker, SAP coordinator and president of the Westhampton Garden Club. The crowd included newcomers ready to learn, “believers,” County Legislator Ann Welker and Quogue Mayor Bob Treuhold, as well as neighbors of the gardens on the tour, their curiosity engaged. The featured gardens demonstrated continuous color in flowers, shrubs and trees as they bloom, lawns converted to clover or gardens, and sanctuaries for wildlife.
