Tony Piazza of Piazza Horticultural in Southampton will present “Native Plant Communities in Landscape Design” for the next edition of the Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons lecture series on Sunday, October 15.
Piazza lives and gardens in Southampton Village. He grew up in rural upstate New York in the foothills of the Adirondacks, where he became innately informed by nature and natural settings, the horticultural alliance states. After receiving a degree in horticulture from Cornell University and working for various design companies, in 1998 he founded Piazza Horticultural, a pioneer in environmentally sound design and maintenance practices.
He is the award-winning designer of the East Hampton Village bioswale, a public awareness project that was one of the first public-private partnerships addressing water quality issues. He also sits on many boards and committees including: the LongHouse Reserve Garden Committee, Parrish Art Museum Landscape Committee, Children’s Museum of the East End Board, Perfect Earth Project Board, and Surfrider Foundation. He is also a Northeast Organic Farming Association-certified organic land care practitioner.
The Sunday, October 15, lecture will begin at 2 p.m. at the Bridgehampton Community House, 2357 Montauk Highway at School Street, in Bridgehampton. Admission is $10, or free for horticultural alliance members. Visit hahgarden.org for more information.
Also happening this weekend at the Bridgehampton Community House is the horticultural alliance yard sale on Saturday, October 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gently used garden tools, ornaments, tuteurs, containers, books and magazines as well as plants will be among the offerings.
