Water Authority Launches Online Tool To View Tap Water Quality

authorStaff Writer on Apr 15, 2025

The Suffolk County Water Authority has announced the launch of a new online tool that gives customers the most precise view yet of the quality of the water delivered to their taps.

Now available on the SCWA website, the tool allows customers to access detailed water quality information tailored to their specific location, according to SCWA.

“With SCWA supplying drinking water from more than 600 wells across 243 different sites throughout Suffolk County, the new feature provides unprecedented insight into local water quality,” a statement from SCWA reads.

“Our customers deserve the most accurate, transparent information about their drinking water,” said Charlie Lefkowitz, the SCWA chairman. “This new tool empowers customers with personalized information and continues our commitment to providing Suffolk County with some of the highest quality drinking water in the nation.”

Traditionally, water quality information was presented by pressure zones in SCWA’s annual Drinking Water Quality Report. While this reporting met regulatory standards, it sometimes generalized results across large areas. Because SCWA’s system is designed with limited movement of water, customers typically receive water from a small group of wells located nearest to them. The new tool refines the data, allowing customers to see testing results that are more directly relevant to the water they receive.

“This tool is simple and easy for customers to use, but there’s a tremendous amount of work happening on the backend to ensure each customer is receiving the right information,” said SCWA CEO Jeff Szabo. “Although our system might look like one large network from the outside, it’s really hundreds of smaller systems serving local neighborhoods. This tool gives customers the best, most accurate picture yet of the water quality at their own taps.”

Customers input their address and receive detailed reports on water quality, specifically from the wells that serve them. Customers can access the tool by visiting scwa.com/mywaterquality.
