Galerie Provenance: Where Rare Antiques Meet Personal Design in Bridgehampton
A new kind of luxury design gallery has arrived in Bridgehampton, but you won’t find it in town alongside the hamlet’s other storefronts. Galerie Provenance — founded by curator and former television executive Sheila Bouttier — specializes in connecting homeowners and interior designers with mid-century rarities and European antiques. And it’s located in Bouttier’s sun-drenched cottage.

“Personally, when trying to figure out my own style … seeing how things were styled and arranged was really helpful,” Bouttier said.
The now-bi-coastal entrepreneur began showcasing antiques and artwork in her Los Angeles home in 2017, and expanded in 2023 with an annex. Her Bridgehampton cottage is her second location.
“I really love working with clients, very individually,” she said. “It’s a more intimate setting than people coming into a store and being around. That’s why I try to be there in person as much as I can.”
Much like an art gallery, Galerie Provenance features one-of-a-kind items that you won’t find anywhere else. Nothing is mass-produced, and everything has a story (or at least years of patina), like a bronze bowl by Axel Salto from 1930s Denmark or a Catalan mallal with a chipped spout from the 18th century. She also showcases the works of her grandfather, artist Benjamin Abramowitz.
“I find that people really do love hearing the stories of the pieces,” Bouttier said, explaining that she sources them from across Europe — mostly Scandinavia, France and the U.K. — and Japan. “People are building beautiful homes or renovating beautiful homes, and like adding this layer of story that gives more depth. I think that it distinguishes your home from a lot of others.”
Interior designer Molly Isaksen, who has sourced many pieces through Galerie Provenance, agreed.
“Galerie Provenance does not only have an exceptional collection filled with one-of-a-kind pieces — ranging from hard-to-find mid-century furniture to collectible ceramic and bronze items — it is Sheila Bouttier who makes the experience of working with Galerie Provenance such a pleasure,” Isaksen said. “It’s Sheila’s discerning eye and deep appreciation for both the aesthetic and emotional value of the pieces that has led her to curate a remarkable collection.”
Bouttier also works with clients over time, as they develop their own collections and styles. She can be on hand to source specific pieces with a clear understanding of their taste.
“I keep them in mind for things that I find,” she said. “For me, it’s about keeping it small and personal and exclusive.”
Isaksen said she has acquired many special items through Galerie Provenance over the years, “ranging from a one-of-a-kind 17th-century chest of drawers from the Pyrenees to Gunnar Nylund Swedish ceramics.”
“We currently have our eye on a stunning, rare 1930s bronze bowl by Axel Salto,” she added.
That kind of personal attention and devotion to detail hasn’t gone unnoticed by clients — many of whom have homes on the South Fork. After running Galerie Provenance as a pop-up on the East End in 2023, Bouttier returned every summer and this year made it permanent.
Bridgehampton, she said, offers a peaceful atmosphere where clients can thoughtfully discover the stories she’s brought into the cottage.
“I’m blown away by the natural beauty and peacefulness of it,” she said. “I found a sweet little street that is walking distance into town. It’s very private, but it’s a work in progress — a growing organism. This is our first summer in the cottage, so there is more to come.”
To enhance the lived-in and layered feel of the space, Bouttier partnered with female-led brands such as Jenni Kayne Home, Armadillo and Parachute, offering natural fabrics and linens that help evoke a relaxed, East End atmosphere.
It’s a far cry from her previous career. Bouttier, a veteran TV executive, once worked on shows like “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “The Tyra Banks Show.” Though she never anticipated becoming a business owner, she said the transition has been deeply rewarding.
“It’s been a really wonderful experience,” she said.
