Paper Flowers

From the moment I laid eyes on Tana Leigh Gerber’s website, bohemianbloom.com, I was excited to write about her and her business.

Her hand-crafted paper flowers are visually captivating, and I found the permanence they offer, compared to cut flowers, so appealing. Having a handmade work of art as a permanent, tangible connection to a momentous and joyous occasion like a wedding is truly a gift.

As I interviewed Tana, I was even more impressed. I related to her on many levels, including her simple list of tools of the trade: one type of paper, an Exacto knife, hot glue gun and a cup of coffee; I share that final essential ingredient with her, along with a laptop, Mozart in my airpods, and, if the deadline is feeling extra tight, some chocolate.

Most relatable for me was when she described how her business — her A-list clients include the Obama family — has provided a creative outlet and identity outside of her other life’s calling, as a mother of four. I feel the same way about my own creative writing endeavors, as a mother of three young children. So cheers to Tana Leigh Gerber and all the other amazing women out there, making art of all kinds, while raising young children. We are all making the world a better and more beautiful place, in more ways than one.
