Squid Goes Sober(ish): Kidd Squid Launches First Non-Alcoholic Beer

Kidd Squid Brewing Co., the playfully rebellious Sag Harbor brewery known for its inventive labels and small-batch cult favorites, is taking the plunge into the non-alcoholic market. Meet Nautee, the brewery’s first-ever N.A. IPA, wrapped in a delightfully weird can featuring a pink wetsuit-clad diver clutching six-packs like flippers.

Owners Rory McEvoy and Grainne Cohen say the idea for a booze-free brew has been bubbling up for a while. “This is our first non-alcoholic beer,” McEvoy says. “We’re starting with a light-bodied IPA, with notes of lemon drop and a citrusy hoppy background.” The name “Nautee” plays on Kidd Squid’s nautical branding — and maybe a little cheeky nod to how surprisingly fun a non-alcoholic beer can be.

With a clean, crisp taste and less than 0.5% ABV, “Nautee” lets fans enjoy the Kidd Squid experience without the buzz. As for what’s next in the N.A. pipeline? “Maybe a lager,” McEvoy says. But first, they’re seeing how the Nautee tides turn.

Find Nautee and the rest of Kidd Squid’s lineup at kiddsquid.com or on tap at their cozy spot on Spring Street in Sag Harbor.
