The Stephen Talkhouse is more than just a music venue — it’s a cultural cornerstone of the hamlet of Amagansett. For nearly four decades, it has served as a gathering place where locals and celebrities alike come together to experience live music in an intimate, authentic setting that reflects the spirit of the community.

The Talkhouse began as a 19th century boarding house for whalers and evolved into one of the most iconic music venues in the Hamptons. Its transformation started in 1987 when Peter Honerkamp bought the shuttered local bar on a whim. Inspired by legendary music spots like My Father’s Place, he turned it into a vibrant hub for live performances, preserving its unpretentious, community-focused vibe.

From its early days as a jukebox bar to becoming a renowned live music venue, the Talkhouse has hosted an incredible roster of performers. Over 70 Rock & Roll Hall of Famers have graced its stage, including legends like Paul Simon, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Richie Havens, Taj Mahal and Albert Collins. Star-studded audiences are common — Paul McCartney, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Bon Jovi and others have either performed or attended shows there. Recent years have brought big names like Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Dave Matthews, in intimate shows broadcast via SiriusXM, hosted in a tent behind the iconic bar. Last year, SiriusXM brought its famed “SmartLess” podcast — led by hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes — to the Talkhouse stage for a live recording, with Howard Stern, along with a performance by Jelly Roll.

The bar’s enduring appeal lies in its consistency — from the exposed wood interior and longtime staff to the egalitarian, anti-glam atmosphere. It doesn’t cater to celebrity egos, despite its high-profile clientele, and has earned a reputation as a true community fixture, often supporting local nonprofits by hosting events and fundraisers. Managed today by Peter’s son Max and daughter Ruby, the Talkhouse blends heritage with evolution, ensuring its storied legacy continues for future generations.

Encore in a Can

Extending the legacy of the iconic Amagansett music venue, Talkhouse Encore is a line of ready-to-drink canned cocktails created by Ruby Honerkamp. Each can is designed to channel the laid-back, come-as-you-are spirit of the legendary bar, combining real spirits like vodka or tequila with sparkling water and fruit juice — no added sugars, no artificial flavors. The result is a clean, crisp cocktail perfect for everything from beach days to back porch hangs. With six refreshing flavors, including Grapefruit Tequila Soda and Hampton Mule, Talkhouse Encore offers a taste of the Hamptons wherever you are. Learn more or order online at talkencore.com.
