With a sharp eye for detail and a deft hand for design, artist Erica Lynn Huberty transformed her home at 11 Thistle Patch in a way few could repeat.
A pioneer in contemporary fiber arts, Huberty re-imagined her old North Haven ranch and renovated it to a modern-day cottage — one inspired by Captain's Row in Sag Harbor, now listed for $1.875 million with Rima Mardoyan Smyth and Ryan Struble of Douglas Elliman.
“We loved the house because it looks like a historical Sag Harbor house, but is new and beautifully landscaped and bordering on a 30-acre nature reserve,” Mardoyan Smyth said. “It has big sky and beautiful light.”
Sited on just over a half-acre, the 3,500-square-foot, six-bedroom home is located three blocks from the beach and features a wood-burning fireplace and a master suite with a walk-in closet, dressing room and claw-foot bath, as well as a finished lower level.
“The overall feel of the house is rambling, comfortable, with lots of indoor and outdoor spaces and a poetic English Garden designed by a well-known landscape designer, Tony Piazza,” Mardoyan Smyth said. “He did the Parrish Art Museum and other significant homes in the Hamptons.”
The backyard is also home to a heated pool, outdoor shower, a greenhouse and even a tree house.
“There is a separate house connected by a large entrance,” Mardoyan Smyth noted. “This is so fantastic as it would be perfect for an artist, office, guests, mother-daughter situation, or to be used as a gym or yoga room. It is large and has its own deck, has a bedroom and an en-suite bathroom and a kitchenette.
“The house is priced well below market value,” she continued. “The person who will get the house will be in a very dreamy place, which is hard to replicate, as it is unique in every way.”
