When Linley Pennebaker Hagen sells a historic home in Sag Harbor, she knows it has a story to tell.
In the case of 67 Garden Street, it was full of them — and she understands that better than most.
Built in the 1860s, the one-and-a-half-story residence — a blend of period character with village charm — once belonged to her father, pioneering documentary filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker, who died in 2019 at age 94.
On September 9, Hagen — alongside fellow Brown Harris Stevens listing agent Kim Kakerbeck — sold the home for $1.7 million after finding a buyer within just a week of it hitting the market.
“It was always alive and well lived in,” Hagen said of the home, “full of excitement for the five decades the owners lived there.”
Pennebaker bought the house in the 1970s, its shingle siding, two-over-two sash windows and cross-gabled roof providing a timeless façade. The two-bedroom, one-bath layout features a gas fireplace, stained-glass details and a bright second floor with vaulted ceilings.
“It’s bittersweet to part with such a loved home, but at some point, it had to find a new steward/owner to care and repair for the future of this old house,” Hagen said. “We know the new owners will be proud of its heritage and beauty-to-be, with their new ideas and love for the old house in our village of Sag Harbor.”
