Architects working across the East End found no shortage of recognition at the annual Archi Awards ceremony held by the Long Island chapter of the American Institute of Architects in Manhasset on October 15.
Bates Masi + Architects earned two Archis for residential projects in Amagansett. Stelle Lomont Rouhani Architects won an Archi for the firm’s residential project in Amagansett, as well as commendations for design work for homes in Water Mill, Bridgehampton and Sagaponack, and a commendation for interior architecture for a project in Water Mill.
As noted last week, Blaze Makoid took home one Archi and two commendations for projects in Sagaponack, North Haven and East Hampton.
In addition, a Sagaponack home called the “Black Rubber House” earned a commendation for Oza/Sabbath Architecture. Robert A.M. Stern Architects won a commendation for historic restoration/adaptive reuse for work at Guild Hall in East Hampton, and Martin Architects was similarly honored for the Wölffer Kitchen project in Sag Harbor. Another commendation went to Mojo Stumer Associates for an as-yet-unbuilt “modern barn” in Water Mill.
In the small projects category, Architecture Research Office won an Archi for the “Aro chicken coop” in Sagaponack, while CWB Architects won a commendation for a “piano pavilion” in Quogue.
Now in its 51st year, the AIA awards celebration recognizes design excellence in projects built on Long Island or designed by Long Island architects and built elsewhere. A total of 32 Archis and commendations were awarded this year.
