Perhaps the powers that be should think about renaming this area the “Hooptons.” Add Jill Dorfman to the list of coaches, players, and others connected to the National Basketball Association who are calling the South Fork home.

If “Dorfman” doesn’t ring a bell, you might be more familiar with her professional name, Jill Martin. After plunking down $3.7 million, in a deal handled by Douglas Elliman Real Estate, she now owns a property on Corrigan Street in the Village of Southampton. The house on a little more than a third of an acre has 6 bedrooms, 5.5 baths and is 5,400 square feet. Included are a professional chef’s kitchen, large fireplace, a library, home theater (for watching game films?), sauna, wine cellar, oversized French doors, and a formal dining room with coiffured ceilings. The heated 18x40 pool contains salt water for that ocean feel.

Ms. Martin is a Long Island native, having grown up in Plainview. While a student at the University of Michigan, she interned with several television shows, including one featuring Kathie Lee Gifford. In the what goes around comes around category, Ms. Martin is now a contributor to the fourth hour of “The Today Show” hosted by Ms. Gifford and Hoda Kotb. Her first regular stint in television was as a staffer on “The Maury Povich Show.” After that, Ms. Martin’s career went south—literally. She hosted a show that broadcast from the South Beach section of Miami. She returned to Long Island to become an entertainment reporter for News 12, with one of her beats being the segment “What’s Hot in the Hamptons.”

Ms. Martin’s affiliation with the NBA began back in Miami when she became the Heat’s first in-arena host, interviewing players and celebrity spectators. While doing that, she began to appear on “Good Morning America,” reporting on fashion trends. She continued to work for the Heat and pursue other television opportunities until 2007, when she signed on with the MSG Network in New York.

Nowadays, she conducts interviews before and after Knicks games … and one hopes this season will be a more upbeat one for Ms. Martin. She also does halftime interviews with celebs in attendance at the Garden, among them Chris Rock, Ron Howard, Spike Lee and Robert Plant.

Martin is developing a television show titled, “I Have Nothing to Wear.” She will be able to fit a whole lot of nothing in all the closet space available in her new Southampton manse.
