Textile designer Jack Lenor Larsen, founder of LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, received two awards this month.
The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum presented Mr. Larsen with the Director’s Award at the 2015 National Design Awards on October 15. This event recognizes excellence and innovation in American design across a variety of disciplines.
A day earlier, Mr. Larsen was also awarded the 2015 Star of Design in the category of Lifetime Achievement on behalf of Charles Cohen and the Decoration and Design Building. This award recognizes an individual who has had significant achievements in his or her field and those who have made a lasting impact. Awards were presented in art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, landscape architecture, photography and product/industrial design.
Over the past five decades, Mr. Larsen’s firm, which bears his name, has grown to become a dominant resource for signature fabrics. Mr. Larsen, who is also an author and collector, founded the 16-acre LongHouse Reserve as a case study to exemplify a creative approach to contemporary life. The nonprofit museum features an arboretum, sculpture gardens and programs.
