A Bridgehampton residence originally built by the Hildreths, a prominent local family with an eponymous Southampton Village department store, recently sold for $7 million, its full asking price.
The 1.41-acre property at 81 Ocean Road went into contract within three weeks of coming to market.
The home, which has been featured in Architectural Digest, has “preserved its historical significance throughout each stage of renovation,” according to the listing.
The 4,800-square-foot main house has six bedrooms, four full bathrooms and two half-baths, plus multiple sitting areas. There are six fireplaces to find throughout.
The kitchen is outfitted with top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, an island, a separate pantry, and a breakfast space, which leads into the formal dining room. An adjacent sitting area accesses the screened-in porch, which has a fireplace and overlooks the backyard.
The first floor also offers a separate den.
A “privately located section of the residence” has a wet bar, a kitchenette and a wine fridge, plus a staircase to get upstairs.
The primary suite is located on the second floor and includes multiple closets, a wood-burning fireplace, a bathroom with freestanding tub, shower and double sinks, and a private terrace overlooking the backyard.
A detached four-car garage has a finished upper level with a living area, a full bathroom and a rear-facing terrace. Near the garage is a 20-foot-by-50-foot gunite saltwater pool, with a surrounding patio area.
The listing notes that the third floor of the main residence could be finished and the rear bay in the garage could be converted to a pool house.
The sellers were represented by Hedgerow Exclusive Properties and Karena Cameron of The Corcoran Group. Heather Buchanan from Sotheby’s represented the buyer.
Preston Kaye, a co-founder of Hedgerow Exclusive Properties, said 81 Ocean Road is a timeless classic with pre-19th century history.
“The house was originally built by the Hildreth Family and has been modernized over the years,” Kaye said. “Close proximity to both town and ocean presented the property in a very desirable way, especially within the $6 million to $8 million price point, for which we are seeing a great deal of demand.”
The sellers were Rebecca and Jonathan Bond and the new owner is Green Gate 1875 LLC, according to Suffolk Vision Inc., which reported that the sale closed on June 28.
