The Peconic Land Trust in Southampton has received a $25,000 grant from the New York State Conservation Partnership Program, administered by the Land Trust Alliance—a national land conservation nonprofit based in Washington, D.C.—and the State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The grant is one of 70 funded through the state’s Environmental Protection Fund to protect water quality and farmland, boost public access for outdoor recreation and conserve open space areas to benefit community health, tourism and economic development. A total of $2.25 million was awarded.
The grant will enable the Peconic Land Trust to partner with Nassau County and Cornell Cooperative Extension to evaluate the status of the landholdings that make up the 145-acre Nassau County 4-H Camp in Riverhead and to create a plan to preserve the land, allowing for the camp’s rejuvenation.
