With Riverhead in its name, many Long Islanders don’t realize Riverhead Building Supply has two stores in Rhode Island. It makes the corporation’s latest move to acquire Westerly-based United Builders Supply make a bit more sense.
Eric Goodale of Riverhead Building Supply said the deal is expected to close by December 1.
The family-owned lumber and building materials dealer will be able to add four additional stores to its 14-store and eight-showroom operation. Locations will include Westerly and Richmond in Rhode Island, as well as Niantic and Waterford in Connecticut.
“This is certainly exciting times to be entering into new markets and add a third state to our resume,” Mr. Goodale said. “It is a great opportunity to expand our footprint to the New England area.”
With new territory also brings new products. Long Island shoppers will see more stone and walkway products available with the acquisition.
United Builders Supply owner and President Michael Slosberg intends to retire after 50 years in the industry. He took on the helm after his father, who started United Builders Supply 77 years ago, left the company.
