For the third consecutive year, Sagaponack’s 11962 is the second most expensive ZIP code in the United States and No. 1 in New York State.

PropertyShark’s annual top 100 list ranked ZIP codes by closed home sales between January 1 and October 15 this year. Despite a 10 percent year-over-year drop in median sales price to $3.88 million, Sagaponack hung on to the No. 2 spot.

Topping Sagaponack is Atherton, California’s 94027, with a $7 million median sales price. The Bay Area community has held the No. 1 spot for four years in row now.

Sagaponack and Atherton have traded the position of most expensive ZIP code a number of times. Sagaponack dethroned Atherton in 2015 with a median price of $8.5 million. Sagaponack remained at No. 1 in 2016 before Atherton reclaimed the title, PropertyShark notes.

Of all the ZIP codes on the list, the third-highest price gain nationally — with a 30 percent year-over-year increase — is Bridgehampton’s 11932, with a 2020 median sales price of $3.33 million.

Joining Sagaponack and Bridgehampton in the top 10 most expensive ZIP codes in New York State are Water Mill’s 11976, Amagansett’s 11930, Wainscott’s 11975 and Quogue’s 11959.

Nationally, Bridgehampton ranks No. 7. Wainscott is No. 17 at $2.8 million, Water Mill is No. 29 at $2.48 million, Amagansett is No. 32 at $2.35 million, and Quogue is No. 39 at $2.1 million.
