Sagaponack’s 11962 zip code landed at second place on this year’s top 100 list of the most expensive zip codes in the country, curated by the online property database PropertyShark.

The scoring was based on the median sales price for the year.

It was a comeback year for Sagaponack, which garnered a $5.5 million median sale price in 2018—a staggering 95 percent increase over last year.

The village was ranked first in 2016, but dropped to 15th in 2017 after the median sale price sank to $2.82 million that year.

According to reporting by area brokerages, it was an odd year for the zip code that has been growing in popularity for the last decade. The number of sales—especially on the high end—has been halved since 2013 and 2014 to the low teens.

This year, the village would have topped the charts if 94027 in Atherton, California, didn’t see a spike in median home sale prices. The continued boom of nearby Silicon Valley accounted for nearly one-third of the zip codes on the list. On the East Coast, locations in New York City and Boston were ranked 4th and 3rd, respectively.

However, PropertyShark has said top-earning homeowners do not necessarily live in the most expensive zip codes. The East Coast overwhelmingly dominates the list in terms of having the most high-earning zip codes. Top earners are centered around the New York, Boston and Washington, D.C., metropolitan and suburban areas. Not one East End zip made that list—presumably because the Twin Forks have many second-home owners.

All told, five South Fork zip codes—the only zips that ranked in Suffolk County—found a place on the top 100 most expensive list.

Quoque’s 11959 tied with five California zip codes, including locations in Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco and Santa Monica, at rank 76 with a $1.6 million median sale price.

Wainscott’s 11975 tied with Venice, California, at 48 with just under $1.9 million.

Bridgehampton’s 11932 was named 46th with just under $1.93 million.

Amagansett’s 11930 tied with Redwood City, California, at 35 with $2.15 million.

And at 17 was Water Mill’s 11976 with $2,862,500.
