Sadly, with the passing last week of Bruce Tait, our community has lost a singular figure in the long-term battle to preserve, protect and nourish Sag Harbor’s critically important waterfront. For almost five decades, he was a key player in every effort to improve and nurture the maritime environment and the maritime economy.
From the establishment of the Sag Harbor Village Harbor Committee, to the creation of Breakwater Yachting and Community Sailing Center, and to the writing of our Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan, Bruce was a fierce advocate who understood that a healthy and dynamic waterfront is absolutely essential to our quality of life. He was never afraid to speak out, and his voice will be missed.
Our hearts go out to Bruce’s family, and we wish him a fair wind and a following sea as he crosses the bar.
