Arthur James ‘Jim’ Laspesa of Sag Harbor died following a four-year battle with cancer. He was 75.
Born and raised in Sag Harbor, Laspesa was a very well respected and well known architect, AIA, in the village for the past 45 years, his family said. He was a skilled professional and he loved his career.
For the past 35 years, he had been dedicated to improving the quality of life for Southampton residents, especially for those in the Village of North Haven. He was appointed to the village’s Planning Board in 1986, and became deputy chairman and served on the board for 19 years. Soon after, he was elected trustee of North Haven for eight years. He had a particular interest and expertise in land use and open space acquisition.
As a member of the American Legion Post No. 388, Laspesa was very proud of his service in the Air Force, where he served as a medic in the Philippines and received the Accommodation Medal for his outstanding accomplishments.
While he was a member of the Sag Harbor Yacht Club, he served on the board and was commodore six times.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline; son Bill and his wife Kelly; son James and his wife Heike; and his grandchildren, Reef and Sierrastar.
A celebration of life will be private.
