Canio’s Books, On the Road, will open a holiday pop-up shop over three weekends in December at the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum at 200 Main Street.
The temporary bookshop will offer holiday gifts and books for sale starting Thursday, December 12, and concluding Sunday, December 29, at the historic museum in the heart of Sag Harbor Village. The shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays, and on Friday, December 27, until 6:30 p.m., to welcome music fans heading to the jazz concert at the Masonic Hall upstairs.
While the museum is officially closed for the season, visitors can get a peek inside this former home of Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage that dates from 1845. The building has been designated a National Landmark.
A limited selection of Canio’s signature collection of books will be available. Special orders will be filled on an individual basis. As always, gift-wrapping will be available. The building is handicapped accessible.
Last fall, Canio’s, a Sag Harbor cultural institution, lost the lease on the Main Street shop it had occupied since 1980. Its owners, Maryann Calendrille and Kathryn Szoka, are continuing to operate on a mostly online basis, as they search for a new rental space.
