Emily Grace Bollman of Sag Harbor died peacefully at home on January 8. She was 81.

She was born on September 8, 1941, to Herbert and Emily Fordham and raised in Sag Harbor. She attended Pierson High School. She then went on to Potsdam College, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, and met her husband, who attended nearby Clarkson College.

Together, they lived for a short time in California and Washington, before returning to New York to raise a family. She was dedicated to raising her two daughters. She deeply loved her family and her cats, her family said.

She was involved in the Episcopal Church Women at St. John’s Church in New City, and at various times served as president and treasurer.

She was an accomplished quilter and folk artist, who shared her many creations with family and friends. She had many hobbies, including stereophotography, gardening, and backyard birdwatching.

She was a world traveler and a Francophile. She visited France several times, took French immersion classes, and collected French art. She was also an avid reader and a whiz at “Jeopardy.”

She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth and Christine; four grandchildren, Rachel, Danielle, Derek, and Samantha; and her brother, Herbert. She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie; and her brother, Rudolph.

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in New City on April 22 at 11 a.m.

Southampton Town officials, it must be said, are very much on point when it comes to affordable housing. It’s not just lip service: The town is doing its level best to begin to address the ongoing crisis that is making it harder for the town’s workforce to stay here, and more difficult for the town’s business community to fill positions. It became problematic a few years ago, but today it’s probably the biggest issue Town Hall faces. And it appears that all hands are on deck. The town’s voters also have done their part, approving a new Community Housing Fund ... by Editorial Board
