Refuse Surprises

The Noyac Civic Council once again is proud to have many volunteers join in the Great East End Clean-Up. This year, we had a few different surprises as we picked up the usual trash along Noyac Road. We found a five-point deer lying on the side of Noyac Road, no doubt hit by a car. Many thanks to Lucas of the Highway Department, who took care of the carcass. Narcan Training Will Be Offered in Sag Harbor

The Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce and David Falkowski of Open Minded Organics will team up with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department to present a free Narcan training program at the Sag Harbor Firehouse on Brick Kiln Road at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 12. The training will be led by Investigator Sergeant William Weick, who has held similar programs in the past. Narcan is used to counter the effects of an opioid overdose, and all attendees will receive a Narcan kit to bring home with them. The memorial poppy is handmade by disabled veterans in hospitals and workshops. The veteran is paid for each poppy he/she makes and many veteran patients derive considerable therapeutic and psychological benefits making poppies. Each nine-piece poppy is painstakingly made and never sold but given in exchange for a contribution. The poppy program has been part of American Legion Auxiliary programming for more than 69 years. Sag Harbor Grad To Deliver Keynote at Plymouth State University Commencement

Plymouth State University alumnus and meteorologist Chris Gloninger, a 2002 graduate of Pierson High School, will deliver the keynote address for the university’s 154th undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 10. Gloninger’s fascination with meteorology started when Hurricane Bob struck Sag Harbor. After graduating from PSU in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in meteorology and atmospheric science and receiving his Certified Broadcast Meteorologist accreditation from the American Meteorological Society, he embarked on a career in broadcasting.
