Incomplete Proposal

East End YIMBY recommends high standards of due diligence, clear reasoning, transparency and public purposefulness of those involved with evaluating the proposed mixed-use development on Rose and Bridge streets.

As for the anticipated neighboring development, it too must be considered to understand how they solve existing and known environmental conditions.

Each opportunity requires a common set of legal procedures and approvals consistent with the comprehensive goals and legislative provisions of the community. They must meet public health and environmental impact standards, and promote general well-being.

East End YIMBY encourages a healthy, focused public input process based on the content in an applicant’s complete submission. The current Rose and Bridge street proposal is incomplete, and therefore the village is waiting for further documents before it begins public hearings. This will help the community to avoid unproductive objections and acrimony.

Incomplete information can fuel personal dislike or antagonism, which can cause long-term damage to the commercial and residential components of the final development. Doing so will more likely allow this, and future critical affordable housing solutions, to be thoughtfully incorporated into the rich fabric of our village and the East End.

Though our initial analysis leads us to believe the proposal can meet the community’s goals and standards, and therefore deserves support, there is much to be defined by the developer, considered by the village government and its committees, and discussed by the public.

Many of the criteria used to judge acceptability are objective and measurable. Some are subjective. Our elected and appointed citizens are relied upon to exercise good and fair judgment to evaluate these proposals, seeking a broad understanding of competing viewpoints.

Public voices should serve to hold officials accountable to the law and the needs of the greater community, rather than their personal opinions.

Our future depends on this and deserves no less.
